Systems Administrator
Job Description
rbidr seeks a Systems Administrator to oversee all of rbidr’s technology infrastructure.
This position reports directly to the Senior Analyst/Product Manager and is responsible for managing all activities related to our infrastructure: supporting business requirements for internal and external clients, as well as liaising with client-side, UI/UX, and back-end teams. Documenting all aspects of the infrastructure. This position requires managing multiple servers and their associated products simultaneously on tight deadlines.
The Systems Administrator is expected to:
- Maintain server infrastructure by creating new instances, installing new software, configuring software, rebooting instances, etc.
- Support application development team and deploy new software, as needed
- Audit issued vulnerability alerts for software in use and patch as necessary
- Review infrastructure logs and alerts for issues that need to be remedied
- Run regular security audits against infrastructure
- Maintain various Bash scripts related to automating regular server tasks
- Participate in regular on call schedule, including weekends and holidays, to quickly mitigate service interruptions
- Maintain infrastructure backups
Required experience and knowledge
Successful candidates must have prior experience in complex infrastructures, gathering technical requirements, mapping tasks, and transferring knowledge to development teams. This person must also have experience in creating architecture diagrams and system test plans. This means that the person has had broad-based and in-depth experience with these skills and their place in infrastructure build-outs and system development life cycles.
This position will have substantial contact both with the business unit and internal IT development staff. As such, they must have effective communication skills, a proven ability to present complex concepts clearly and excellent writing skills.
Skills
- at least 5 years of *nix systems administration experience (e.g. Solaris, OpenSolaris, Linux or OS X Server)
- comfortable in a LAMP environment
- expertise in bash scripting
- exceptional written and oral communication skills in English
- ability to work independently
- prior experince with Amazon EC2 (or other cloud) environments a plus
- experience in use of subversion a plus
- previous experience with Glassfish, Nessus, Snort, OSSEC, Splunk and/or Nagios a plus
- familiarity with database design and SQL would be helpful
- understanding of software development lifecycles (e.g Agile Methodology) and application release management a plus
Education
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
